Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 c. Flour
  • 2 tsp. Baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 oz. Cold shortening
  • 2 oz. Cold butter, cut into small cubes
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450F, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Sift dry ingredients together. 
  3. Cut or rub in shortening and butter until broken up and well blended. The mixture should resemble cornmeal. 
  4. Gently stir in buttermilk until just blended. 
  5. Dump shaggy dough onto floured table and fold five or six times. Roll out to 3/4 inch think and cut into biscuits. Brush with melted butter if desired.
  6. Bake 15 minutes, until golden brown.
