Vegetable Shortening, 4 tablespoons plus 2 tsp (or 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter)

Unsalted butter, 4 tablespoons

Buttermilk, 3/4 cup (or 3/4 cups of milk plus 2 tsp of lemon juice or vinegar)

Baking sheet, cookie sheet, or baking stone

Parchment paper optional for lining pan

Large bowl

Whisk or fork

Wooden spoon or stiff spatula

Biscuit cutter or glass for cutting biscuits

Rolling pin or straight sided bottle for rolling
